Michael Fassbender Exits Natalie Portman’s ‘Jane Got a Gun’

Jane Got a Gun has been hit by a round of musical chairs. Michael Fassbender, who was to have played the male lead in the Natalie Portman-led Western, has exited the movie, while Joel Edgerton, who was on board to play the villain, will step into the hero role. Jude Law, in the meantime, has signed on for the villain, sources tell The Hollywood Reporter.

Gun centers on a woman whose outlaw husband returns home riddled with bullet wounds and barely alive. When her husband’s gang eventually tracks him down to finish the job, she is forced to reach out to an ex-lover and ask if he will help defend her farm.Edgerton will now play the ex-lover while Law will be the leader of the gang that lays siege to the homestead.

The moves come a couple weeks before the start of shooting in New Mexico. Sources say the actor rotation came about due to Fassbender’s schedule conflict with his upcoming shoot in Montreal for X-Men: Days of Future Past. Gun has been pushed back several times and now is scheduled to begin filming in April.
Scott Steindorff, Aleen Keshishian and Terry Dougas are producing. Lynne Ramsay (We Need to Talk About Kevin) is directing.

Edgerton, who next appears in the all-star adaptation of The Great Gatsby, is repped by CAA, Shanahan Management and Hirsch Wallerstein. Law is coming off a starring turn in Steven Soderbergh’s Side Effects and just wrapped shooting Wes Anderson’s latest, the ensemble comedy The Grand Budapest Hotel. He is repped by WME, LBI Entertainment and Jackoway Tyerman. (source)

Michael Fassbender visits Life’s Too Short set

Untitled 1

Michael Fassbender shocked the cast of British sitcom ‘Life’s Too Short’ by arriving on set to watch his close pal Val Kilmer film a cameo appearance.

Michael Fassbender visited the ‘Life’s Too Short’ set.

The Hollywood actor has been hanging out behind the scenes of Warwick Davis, Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant’s BBC Two sitcom after being invited by Val Kilmer, who has a cameo role on the show’s last episode.

A source told DigitalSpy: “Fassbender and Kilmer were just hanging out with everyone on set and really enjoying themselves.

“It was amazing to see these Hollywood stars on the same set as the show’s British TV stars like Les Dennis, Keith Chegwin and Shaun Williamson.”

Val reportedly asked producers whether he could bring a friend along and the cast and crew were gobsmacked when the high profile ‘Shame’ actor turned up.

However, the show’s diminutive star Warwick had no idea who Michael was when he first showed up.

He confessed: “I didn’t know it was him. He was just introduced to me as Michael and I just said, ‘Alright Michael’. He probably just thinks I’m really cool now.”

The mockumentary follows ‘Harry Potter’ actor Warwick in his daily life and sees British funnymen Ricky and Stephen appear in supporting roles as themselves.

The popular comedy has featured a host of celebrity cameos in the past including Liam Neeson, Helena Bonham Carter and Johnny Depp. [source]

NECA’s ‘Prometheus’ Series 2 brings Michael Fassbender to your shelf

Untitled 2

The National Entertainment Collectible Association (NECA) announced today on their Facebook page that their second series of action figures based on the hit Sci-fi movie “Prometheus” are now hitting store shelves.

David the android played in the film by German actor Michael Fassbender is the star of this second series. NECA managed to capture the actor’s likeness perfectly in plastic. The David figure comes complete in his space suit with a detachable helmet. Also included are two interchangeable head sculpts and a personal computer accessory.

NECA wisely chose to also include the movie finale’s proto Xenomorph named Deacon. Prometheus is a loose prequel to director Ridley Scott’s “Alien” franchise and this figure represents an early form of the original film’s antagonists created by the Engineers. Deacon features a movie accurate sculpt and some great articulation. Deacon comes with a screaming Engineer head and removable helmet that can be swapped out on the figure released by NECA in series 1. Two bendable snake aliens from the film are also included.

Check your local toy stores to pick up these great figures from NECA today. [source]

Colin Firth & Michael Fassbender’s ‘Genius’ Sells Around the World

Untitled 12

BERLIN — Colin Firth and Michael Fassbender’s Genius — based on A. Scott Berg’s National Book Award-winning biography Max Perkins: Editor of Genius — is sparking avid interest among independent distributors.

FilmNation has sold the film in a raft of key foreign territories, including to The Weinstein Co. in the U.K., Australia and New Zealand.
There’s no word on whether TWC will buy U.S. rights, but Harvey Weinstein’s shop would be a natural fit for Genius, having released the Oscar best picture The King’s Speech, for which Firth won the Oscar for best actor. TWC is one of the most aggressive players in the awards space, and Genius could well be a contender considering its pedigree.
Genius recounts the real-life relationship between literary giant Thomas Wolfe (Fassbender) and renowned editor Max Perkins (Firth), who developed a tender, complex friendship that changed the lives of both men forever.

CAA is arranging financing for Genius and is representing domestic rights. FilmNation began shopping the project to foreign buyers last fall and will continue sales at the European Film Market in Berlin, which got underway today.
Michael Grandage — who recently served as the artistic director of London’s famed theatre the Donmar Warehouse — will direct from an adapted script by John Logan and hopes to begin shooting in early 2014.
James Bierman is producing for the Michael Grandage Co. Bierman served as executive producer at Donmar and formed MGC with Grandange.
In addition to the deals for the U.K., Australia and New Zealand, Genius has sold to Mars in France, Central Partnership in C.I.S., Revolutionary Releasing in Poland, Paradiso Film in Benelux, LEV Cinemas in Israel, Italia Film International in the Middle East, Mis Label Aps in Scandinavia, Elite Film AG in Switzerland, Sun Distribution Group in Mexico, Edko Film Ltd. in Hong Kong, Gaga in Japan, Shaw in Singapore, Dreamwest Pictures in South Korea, Studio Solutions Group in Taiwan and Ster Kinekor Entertainment in South Africa.
The sale to Telepool and Senator in Germany was previously announced. [source]

Rodrigo Santoro joins Lynne Ramsay’s ‘Jane Got A Gun’ with Michael Fassbender & Natalie Portman

Untitled 9

As if “Morvern Callar” and “We Need To Talk About Kevin” helmer Lynne Ramsay doing a western wasn’t enough to get you excited, the cast itself is a powderkeg all its own. With Natalie Portman, Michael Fassbender and Joel Edgerton already lined up, a new name has now come on board.
“300” star Rodrigo Santoro has joined “Jane Got A Gun,” playing the part of Fitchum. Penned by Brian Duffield, the story will follow Jane Hammond (Portman), a good girl married to one of the worst baddies in town. When her husband Bill (Edgerton) turns against his own gang, the vicious Bishop Boys, and returns home barely alive with eight bullets in his back, Jane decides to grab a gun and take matters into her own hands. As the relentless leader John Bishop gears up for revenge, Jane’s best hope for her family’s survival rests with her old love Dan Frost (Fassbender) – a gunslinger whose hatred for Bill is only slightly overshadowed by his love for Jane.

Production is slated to begin soon so we’ll just place this already on our anticipated list for 2014. As for Santoro, after last month’s “The Last Stand” and this summer’s “300: Rise Of An Empire,” it might be a nice change of pace from playing second fiddle to Arnie and getting greased up and yelling.
